Case Study: Research Organisation
“We required assistance in migrating our infrastructure workloads to a cloud-based hosting partner while ensuring high performance and cost efficiency”.
Client Requirements
Our client, a Crown Research Institute, had a storage problem. With research data spread across multiple on-premises sites, maintaining multiple storage platforms was costly and challenging, straining their in-house Operations team.
To address this, they turned to cloud providers, including local IaaS providers and larger hyperscale companies, while considering latency concerns.
The goal was to secure scalable storage options for different data and accessibility types, considering factors such as age and application design. To ensure high availability for project datasets, the client even considered hybrid options, including hosting and in-house storage.
Our Deliverable
We were tasked with helping the client review their infrastructure strategy and explore outsourcing their workloads to a cloud hosting partner.
Our team developed a technical requirements document to inform their Request for Proposal (RFP) and ensure their data types (low, medium, and high availability) were priced accordingly.
Our Solution
An Edge Principal Consultant collaborated with the organization's infrastructure team and science research stakeholders to gather comprehensive requirements.
We developed and issued an RFP to major cloud hosting partners, managing vendor communications and presentations.
A vendor scoring template was created to ensure fair and structured evaluation, and once the ideal vendor was chosen, Edge Communications provided expert project management to ensure a successful transition to the hosted solution.
